What Can We do for Gender Equality in our Society

     

Stop comparing the genders for everything. If both genders were meant to do the same thing the same way, there wouldn’t be two genders to start with. Since it is not the case, clearly nature had different ideas in mind.

Equality is a very broad term. We can only achieve equality of opportunity, not equality of outcome, because the outcome depends on a lot of factors that we definitely can’t control. We can only ensure everyone, irrespective of the gender, race, religion, etc., gets the same level of opportunity to give their best effort. The outcome in the end will depend on a lot of factors for sure, including their own capabilities, but that is something we should not try to calibrate, as that will definitely affect the quality.

To understand this, we can take a simple example of a 100-meter race. Equality of opportunity means we allow everyone to compete in a 100m race, but to try to achieve equality of outcome would mean we make one gender run with a head start of 50m and the other run full 100m, and then choose the winner from both the groups. This would not be true equality, isn’t it?
